Background and Reseach interest Master in Social Anthropology, 2003. PhD student since 2007 (project duration 2007-2012) My PhD project explores issues concerning migration, identity and belonging. Data will be collected among skilled immigrants in Montreal, Canada. I focus particularly on how migration is planned, prepared and imagined in the pre-migratory phase, and on how this in turn influences and shapes experiences and stategies of adaption and integration after migrating. Central themes are negotiations of identity, perceptions of belonging, and the migrants` larger life projects. My Master’s Thesis was an anthropological study of informal economic practices in Havana, Cuba. It focused particularly on the dynamic between the formal, communist structures and the informal transaction practices on the “street level”. I was mainly interested in exploring how actors interpreted the transactions in ways that served to bridge the formal and the informal. After completing my graduate studies I have had various short-term contracts as research assistant and researcher at NTNU and Sintef. The projects I have been involved in lie mainly in the field of work life research. I am also involved in the EU project WORKS (Work Organization and Restructuring in the Knowledge Economy). Themes: migration, identity, work life, informal economy, globalization Regions: Cuba, Canada, Norway Publications: Sætermo, Turid (2003): Neighbours, Networks and Negocios. An Anthropological Study of Informal Economic Practices in Havana, Cuba (Master’s Thesis, NTNU) Cand.polit. i sosialantropologi fra NTNU (2003). Stipendiat siden mars 2007. Jeg er også tilknyttet EU-prosjektet WORKS (Work Organization and Restructuring in the Knowledge Economy).
